Texas House Approves Bills Easing Concealed Handgun Restrictions:
the bill would remove some restrictions on people with concealed licenses:
1 - it’s illegal to have a handgun in any establishment that gets the majority of its income from alcohol sales on its premises. business owners are required to post a sign stating this. under the proposed bill, a concealed license holder couldn’t be prosecuted for carrying a gun into a bar that didn’t have it’s sign posted. (because if the law isn’t visible, it doesn’t exist?)
2 - concealed license holders would be able to use their expired license if they’d applied for a new license, but hadn’t received a response from DPS. (hope the delay isn’t DPS saying no, hey?)
3 - the bill does away with the current law that allows authorities to suspend a license if the person refuses to show it when asked. (because we want to make the job of law enforcement more difficult)
4 - this is my personal favorite: the bill would prevent police from finding out that someone has a concealed handgun license when they do a driver’s license or license plate check during routine stops. (because it’s much better for the officer to be caught completely off-guard. we certainly wouldn’t want him to be aware of it from the outset so that he could avoid over-reacting to a gun he sees. naww.)
but wait. that’s not the only lunacy, we’re busy still trying to put guns on school campuses…
virginia tech shootings
i have hesitated to post anything about the tragedy at virginia tech, but i would like to add my voice to all those expressing sympathy to the students and their families. may they be able to find peace during this time.
my heart goes out to anyone and everyone affected by this tragedy.
because i was curious, i did some research on the number of school shootings in the us. below, there is a list of school shootings and/or stabbings that have occurred, from dkos, along with a map of where the shootings have occurred.
