i know i am, but what’re you?For the love of crap, learn what the word ideology means before attacking it:
Everyone has an ideology. This is because, in its broadest definition, ideology simply refers to the set of beliefs that determines the values that guide the actions of an individual or group. Just like everyone has an accent, everyone has an ideology.
Additionally, while it is true that there is a usage of the term “ideology” that refers to impracticality, it is also true that every ideology is in constant contact with reality. Everyone has beliefs, and everyone is also forced to operate in the real world. Since there is no alternative world in which to operate, or different levels of interaction with reality available, everyone deals with the conflict between experiential reality and ideological abstraction equally. People might have different appraisals of the effect of certain actions, or even differences in preferred outcomes of their actions, but no one can escape taking action based on their beliefs.
i’m constantly hearing how we must vote *centrist* and avoid ideologues… by ideologues. either they’re unaware of the definition of “ideologue” or they’re using it as a means to their own end (adherence to status quo? maintaining their own power?)
the same camp of people would have you believe that “extremists” exist only at either end of the spectrum and cannot exist in the center. as they stamp their feet and declare that only their way is the right way and anyone who doesn’t see that is just a “crazy extremist ideologue” who *hates america* or is *unpatriotic*. (i’ve even been told that i’m anti-women, because i disliked hillary clinton as a presidential choice. my vagina says LOL!)
it just goes hand in hand with libertarians who declare that *they* unlike the right or left are *fair*, because they call out the hypocrisy of liberals and conservatives and their monied backers, yet who adamantly refuse to admit the hypocrisy within their own sphere (*ahem*, cato institute w/right wing financing who IS NOT A RIGHT WING ORGANIZATION BUT ARE COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT *ahem*).
fuck it, i’m an ideologue. but then, what’re you?
interesting read on “law and ideology”.

bunnies of death host soylent green cook offfuneral home tries to drum up business with chili cook off:
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Western Massachusetts funeral home is trying “bring life” to business with a chili cookoff, a murder-mystery show and free limo rides to couples on their 50th anniversaries.
Terry Probst, the new managing partner of the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home in Pittsfield, hopes the events will remind people that the funeral home is a center for community life.
He said if customers know that the funeral home also can be the setting for other, happier activities, they might take some comfort in the place later when dark times come.
Among other other events sponsored by the funeral home are an art walk, a visit by the Easter Bunny, and monthly birthday cakes to the Pittsfield Senior Center.
1) i’m not eating chili the funeral home serves in order to “drum up business”. especially when there’s a “murder mystery” involved :O
2) a free limo ride by the local mortuary for a 50th wedding anniversary IS NOT NICE. handy, maybe, tho. get carried away with your spouse in the limo, have a heart attack, YOU GET A FREE RIDE to the funeral home. (several of the nursing homes here take seniors on field trips to houston’s funeral museum. seems bizarrely cruel to me. “LOOK WHERE YER GOING TO BE SOON, YOU OLD PEOPLE THING.” insert a cackle as needed.)
3) the funeral home easter bunny… now that has promise as an incredible “it’s so bad, it’s good” b-movie.
ok, gotta run. headed over to the toxic waste dump for it’s annual ~green lemonade~ sale. it always makes my skin glow so nicely. also, the hide-n-seek games using geiger counters is AWESOME.

why i heart bill white…being a commiepinkoliberalpaganheatheninfidelevildemonspawn (all tags given to me by ~them~), i’m usually fairly cynical when it comes to politics and politicians in general. i am the far left. no, i’m not a loon. i’m not crazy. much. but i am aware that my philosophy on “life, the universe, and everything in it” is way over to the left in the “here be dragons” section of most political spectrums. (42 is WAY out there, ya’ll.) i really do want change, but i despair of ever seeing any meaningful changes as long as our political landscape remains as it is.
enter former mayor bill white. he gives me hope.
yesterday’s primary elections…yesterday were the primary elections and, while i was pretty certain that it would be a bill white victory and that my vote wasn’t really necessary, i heart him too much to pass up the opportunity to cast a vote for him.
i went to the houston chronicle to verify my polling location, but surprise! their link didn’t work. (harrisvotes.com works. harrisvotes.org never works - the domain forwarding is screwy, apparently.)
so i go to the harrisvotes.com site directly and look up polling locations. republicans vote in the community center, democrats in the school next door, according to it.
i get to the school and there’s a sign on the door, “republican primary”. another woman walks up, says she just went to the community center, but that it was only for the republican primary. several other people have walked up by this time and now we’re all confused. WTF IS TEH DEMOCRATS?
we finally go in and ask where we’re supposed to be voting, if both locations are for the republican primary. oh! right here. at the school. where it’s clearly labeled “republican primary”. so yeah, THAT’S not confusing at all. (they had both republicans and democrats at the school location, but only republicans in the community center… wtf? also, 1 of the 6 machines for the democrat primary wasn’t working. GO FIGURE.)
it’s like they don’t want democrats to even be able to vote. had someone come out and stated that democrats vote the following day, i’d not have been surprised.
