arin's attic ...step into my parlor

life and the eternal hunt for yarny goodness

i know, i know, i’ve hardly posted recently.  i’ve been in ~quiet mode~ for quite a while now.  since my abscessed tooth has healed (in pain since APRIL), i’m feeling awesome finally.  i can eat and sleep and do all those wonderful things we take for granted when we’re not screaming “OMGMYFACEHURTS” every few minutes.  ahhh, life is good.  mostly.  ‘cept the parts that suck, but.  WE’RE NOT GOING TO FOCUS ON THAT.

and after a very long, very welcome, very wonderful break, i’ve recently realized that it’s time… to go back.  so i’ve been busy running around looking for *gasp* employment.  of course, leave it to me to be looking for work during a ~terrible economy~.  the jobs ARE out there!  there’s just a ton of us interested in them :|

but that’s okay.  while i’d love to find the perfect spot RIGHT NOW, i’m really not in a terrible hurry.  i’m enjoying the process and taking the time to hopefully *find* that perfect spot: a job i can enjoy with a company for which i’d be pleased to work.  hopefully, some place close to home and, preferably, on a part-time or temporary basis.  i LIKE working temp work and i’d like to continue to enjoy having my ~own~ time - not to say that i wouldn’t take a full-time job, but i’d want it to be “the right one”.  (that may be asking for a lot in this economy, but i’ve the good fortune to be able to do so.)  one of the agencies has sent me out to work a couple of times, so it’s a start. *(more on that later).

also, i’m back to my daily pilates work outs - hoping to work up to 2 times a day - and something i hadn’t realized i was really missing.  ...PLUS i’ve hardly cussed out the poor woman on the video at all!  (“no, YOU bend yourself into a pretzel, lil lady, and roll YOURSELF around the house… oh.  you already did.  FINE.  my powerhouse is PERFECTLY HAPPY, tvym, and i DON’T want an invisible string through my belly, kthx.  also?  if i’ve to hold my leg in this position much longer, i’m going to use it to kick you in the nose!!!!” - the arin stream of pilates consciousness)

i’ve opened a shop on etsy, too!.  i keep crocheting like a mad woman and have too many pieces parts now lying around the house.  if i don’t sell them, my house could asplode :o yarn fibers, everywhere!  i’ll add more pieces to the shop as time allows (i’m working on christmas gifts at the moment)!  i even joined the crochet guild of america… and made a sword!  because you can’t join a guild without a sword.  it’s *the law*.  (my law, but it counts!)

the crochet guild sword!

i’ve been back in touch with a few old friends recently and am looking forward to getting together with them soon!  also, was SO HAPPY to see slobberbone back in houston - first concert in 5 years and it was THEBESTTHINGEVER.

slobberbone - “lazy guy” - makes me laugh every time

hopefully, i’ll be posting more regularly now, so in the immortal words of marvin zindler (EYEwitness news):

“how to invite a depression”

i’ve no idea where this originated, but i’ve always liked it….

a man lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs.

he was hard of hearing so he had no radio or tv.

he had trouble with his eyes so he read no newspapers.

but, he sold good hot dogs.

he put up signs on the highway telling how good they were.

he stood by the side of the road and cried, “buy a hot dog, mister!”

and people bought.

he increased his meat and bun orders.

he bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade.

he got his son home from college to help him.

but then something happened…

his son said, “father, haven’t you been listening to the radio and tv?”

“there’s a depression on.”

“the european situation is terrible!”

“the domestic situation is worse!”

whereupon the father thought, “well, my son’s been to college, he reads the papers and he listens to the radio and tv… he ought to know.”

so the father cut down on his meat and bun orders.

took down his advertising signs,

and no longer bothered to stand out on the highway to sell hot dogs.

and his hot dog sales fell almost over night.

“you’re right, son”, the father said to the boy,

“we certainly are in the middle of a great depression!”

doctors will call it natural causes, but, in reality, i will have semi-consciously willed myself to stop breathing out of boredom and defeat.

you can pick me up at 8.
