08.SEP.01: The Cow Parade, Houston and the Day HE Spoke to Us.

We set out early. The hunt was on. There were cows in the city. This year, I wouldn't be disappointed. I WOULD have a cow. Previous years had left me unfulfilled, as the cows had not graced our fair city with their presence, but this year would be different.

Driving rapidly through the city, we were on the trail. Pushing our car to extremes, we reached top speeds of 30 to 35 mph down Holcombe Blvd. The cows were not far away.

As we neared the end of the trail, our way was suddenly blocked. The stop light was red. So close to our final destination, we were terribly frustrated, but we would not be denied. At last...the light turned green.

Off like a flying herd of turtles, we finally reached our destination and maneuvered our way towards the corral...and there they were. The glorious mooltitudes. The bovine beauties. The stupendous steers. The Cows.

Entering the enclosure, we were awed and amazed at the beasts that stood before us. Careful to not startle the herd, we slowly wound our way through. Stopping to pay our respects, we attempted to unobtrusively make use of the gear we had brought for just this purpose.

Without warning...without so much as a "how do you do"...we heard these words from above: "You, the lady in pink! Hey! You, the blondE! Get behind the fence. You are trespassing here."

Gazing at the cloudy sky, the sun just barely peeking through, we were humbled. Yea, though we walked through the gates of the Cow Parade, we were not alone. We had been judged...and found unworthy...

Quickly, we left the corral and sorrowfully headed home...where we frantically developed the only mementos of the day HE spoke to us...
